Celeste's Pro Tools Issues
Celeste's brand new Quad G5 PPC was having problems bouncing songs even with very few tracks... that didn't seem quite right. It was having buffer under-run errors when there were only a few plug-ins instantiated. The computer was running 10.4.9 (which isn't Digidesign qualified), Pro Tools 7.0, and was using a 002 rack interface. This was a tough one, as you'll see, here's what I tried: adjusted pro tools settings/buffer sizes/RTAS processors, updating Pro Tools to 7.3, 7.3.1, uninstalled/reinstalled Pro Tools 7.3.1, tried creating a new user, tried a different firewire port, different firewire cable, using the 002 on my known-good laptop running 7.3.1, removing all plug-ins, manually deleting all preference files/databases/etc, nothing worked. Finally, one-step short of completely re-installing OS X (to 10.4.8 which IS digidesign qualified), which was not a good option since Celeste had no backup, I tried installing Pro Tools 7.1. It worked! I don't know why, but it worked! Then I hooked Celeste up with a few virtual instruments so she could play around with Ableton Live!.
